How To Restring Waistbeads
Step-by-Step Guide to Restringing Waistbeads by Hand
Materials Needed (Included in the Restringing Kit)
-
Beading needle (optional for smaller beads)
-
Scissors
-
Thread conditioner (optional)
-
Small tray or bowl to hold beads
-
Closure (optional)
Step 1: Prepare Your Work Area
-
Find a flat surface with good lighting.
-
Place all beads in a tray or small bowl to prevent them from rolling away.
-
Cut a length of beading thread (add extra inches for tying knots or securing a clasp).
Step 2: Inspect the Beads and Old String
-
Check for any damaged beads and set them aside.
-
If you want to keep the original pattern, lay the old string in order to match it.
-
If the original string is frayed, discard it.
Step 3: Condition the New String (Optional but Recommended)
-
Run the string through beeswax or a thread conditioner to prevent fraying and increase durability.
Step 4: Secure One End of the String
-
Tie a temporary knot at one end or attach a small bead as a stopper to prevent beads from slipping off as you restring.
Step 5: Restring Beads One by One
-
Using your fingers (or a beading needle for small beads), thread each bead onto the new string.
-
Follow the original pattern, or create a new one as desired.
-
Continue until all beads are in place, leaving enough room at the ends for securing.
Step 6: Tie Off or Attach a Closure
-
For Permanent Waistbeads: Tie a triple knot and secure it with a drop of clear nail polish or glue to prevent slipping.
-
For Adjustable Waistbeads: Use sliding knots for flexibility.
-
For Clasped Waistbeads: Attach a clasp or crimp beads for a professional finish.
Step 7: Trim Excess String & Secure the Finish
-
Cut off any excess thread, ensuring the knots are tight.
-
Test the strength by gently pulling both ends before wearing.
Step 8: Wear & Enjoy!
-
Once secured, your waistbeads are ready to be worn again.
-
Store any extra beads in a safe place for future use.
